A story from Majo about making your dreams a reality.
“When I was a child I started working as a model. I loved new wave music, you know The Sex Pistols, Blondie and my style was very dark and punk. Everyone used to comment on what I wore and I started to think about how important that was, everybody’s own personal style. I worked for 10 years as a model, traveling, going to parties, meeting famous people and my mind started to change. I think one of the most important things in life is to try and understand yourself and the other people around you so I used this opportunity, because my family doesn’t have much money, to go to university, it was my chance to study and I thought psychology was a good idea. Psychology has helped me all my life, with my relationships and with my work. I combined my curiosity for understanding people with my passion for fashion because what I do involves taking pictures of people, who I don’t know, on the street to document current fashion trends. The empathy and sensibility I have learnt from phycology has helped me to communicate with these people, to be able to ask them to do something so daring. In my last year of study I started taking a photo of a person every day and I would put it up on my website. Three years later the website is now a platform for young people; designers, makeup artists and models, so it’s pretty amazing. I use this platform to help other people to launch their own careers, it’s a way that I can offer back the opportunities that I have received, and I love that.”
