A story from Polette about trying to teach art and learning about life instead.
“I teach art to kids of all ages but I really love teaching 8 year olds. They are old enough to take it seriously but young enough to still have fun. They also have this naive perspective of the world, very different than us grown ups. Their lives aren’t full of sadness, they have a lot of happiness, and you can see it in their paintings. I had a student once who was like a professional artist and he only 9 years old. He painted a whole forest with big mushrooms and tiny people. Through teaching it’s amazing how you can open minds but it works the other way too, as I find myself constantly learning from them.”
